More sad news from Hollywood – screenwriter Kevin Jarre, who penned the scripts for such popular films as Tombstone, The Mummy, and Glory, has died of heart failure at the age of 57. He was a producer as well, on the 1997 action movie The Jackal.
Jarre was known as a history buff, which explains why such a good portion of his screenwriting credits involve different periods of American history. Glory, in particular, has an inordinately strong connection with the topic, being about the Civil War. A lot of people a certain age even saw that movie for the first time in history class (like me).
Oh, there’s one other thing: The crack journalists at TMZ got Jarre’s name wrong as “Kevin Jaffe,” which is getting picked up by lots of other sites. Classy, TMZ. Classy.
