Following the bloodbath that was Battleship‘s opening weekend, we are met with the news that G.I. Joe: Retaliation will be shelved until March 29, 2013 for a 3D overhaul. A Paramount exec offered this delightful little nugget:
We’re going to do a conscientious 3D job because we’ve seen how it can better box office internationally. Jim Cameron did all of Titanic‘s 3D in post – and look how well that movie turned out.
It’s cute that the Paramount exec thinks that a) G.I. Joe is a Titanic-caliber franchise, and b) anyone who is going to see G.I. Joe can use the rerelease of Titanic is 3D as a benchmark for how “well it will turn out.”
Of course, I just wrote those sentences under the auspices that this isn’t all some manufactured ploy to have everyone forget that mindless action films don’t deserve their cash when bigger, better ones like The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises are in the mix.
The good news is, if you pre-ordered tickets, you can probably get your money back.
The bad news is that if you pre-ordered tickets, you are the type of person that pre-orders tickets for G.I. Joe movies.
