Megan Ellison Likes Jonze/Kaufman Collaborations So Much She’s Buying One

Tuesday, March 1 by

Director Spike Jonze and writer Charlie Kaufman are getting the band back together to get cinematically absurd once again. Per Deadline, the film is rumored to follow a meeting of world leaders as they determine everything from oil prices to who goes to war when. (Though in reality, those two topics are probably part of the same discussion.) No other details are available, but the reteaming of these two is a promising development.

The project is in negotiations to be purchased by billionaire Megan Ellison, daughter of even-bigger-billionaire and Oracle founder and CEO Larry Ellison. Ellison has very recently made a name for herself as the savior of prestige films and original ideas in today’s increasingly derivative landscape of adaptations and remakes. She served as Executive Producer of 2010′s True Grit (whoops, bad example) and has purchased Cogan’s Trade, The Wettest County in the World, and a Julian Assange biopic for future release. Hollywood’s gonna need to really crank out some remakes to counteract all the progressive projects Ellison is facilitating.
