I’m not sure the word “hipster” means what you think it means. I hope not, anyway.

Both posters are designed for the type of experience you can expect from each film.

If you look at the Harry Potter poster it communicates “Finally, these two will battle.” Which is what will happen. The Tree Of Life Poster instead shows us a tapestry of all the places, and time periods the film will take us. Imagine the poster large sitting outside a theater: each thumbnail is probably a few inches wide, and is easy for an observer to stop and take in each one. Much like a Malick film.

This isn’t simply “hipster” style.

And what should we call the “un-hipsterized” Harry Potter poster? Y’know, the one that is designed exactly as you’d expect.

I guess anything unexpected gets the “Hipster” label in condescending fashion.

You think the entire movie looks “hipsterized” or like Wes Anderson made it because of an extremely common font (which, if you’re unaware, was used by Kubrick long before Wes Anderson made a single film)? Lame, dude.
