Johnny Knoxville and Andy Samberg are close to landing roles in 20th Century Fox's Three Stooges, The Wrap is reporting. The pair, along with Australian comic Shane Jacobson, would play Larry, Curly and Moe, characters that were previously tied to Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn and Jim Carrey.

Peter and Bobby Farrelly are on board to direct the film, which was originally part of MGM's lineup before financial troubles forced the studio to abandon the project. It's a shame MGM couldn't hold onto the rights. Mel Gibson did a TV movie based on the Stooges a few years back, and look at him now!
