That was one of the real draws of the Damon-led Bourne franchise. And Renner has played so many out of control assholes in the last few years that I struggle to envision him in a role where I really connect and feel for his conflicted emotions. However, I do think he's a stellar actor, and as such, will probably pull this off and make me a believer. It was the same way with Kurtwood Smith for me. I couldn't shake the memories of him in Dead Poets Society, even though he was hilarious as Red (in that 70's show - for those of you who were dead or not from earth during their run). Of course the new movie wont even feature Jason Bourne, from what I've read it will focus on another operative from Treadstone/Blackbriar/Whatever, which means a new direction hopefully, unless they're going to do yet another Hitman-who-has-a-soul thing again (yawn, isn't every film about professional killers the same story?) This character never had heart, and after seeing Renner play Dahmer, I'm inclined to get excited about this one, heart be damned.
