Jennifer Lawrence Winnning Dystopian Catfight For ‘Hunger Games’ Lead?

Friday, March 11 by

Every young actress in Hollywood is after the lead in Hunger Games, based on the first in a series of dystopian novels by Suzanne Collins, that are apparently similar to – what else? – Twilight. You’d think every studio executive was bitten by vampires, the way these Twilight wannabes keep coming. And who can blame actresses like Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) and Abigail Breslin (Zombieland) for wanting a little chunk of that Twilight change.

However, it looks like one actress is emerging victorious. 20-year-old Jennifer Lawrence has Winter’s Bone-d her tough competition and is currently the closest to nabbing the part. Lawrence would play Katniss, a young girl in a shitty future, participating in a televised survival death match. I assume many of the ripped male contestants in these so-called “Hunger Games” compete with their shirts off. Maybe that’s why the Oscar nominee is so anxious for the role? It’s why I’ll probably be anxious for it to leave theaters as soon as possible.

Hunger Games will be directed by Gary Ross (Pleasantville) for Lionsgate. (Variety)

Update: Sources at Lionsgate claim Jennifer Lawrence has not been given an offer, but is pulling ahead of the pack. So Steinfeld still has time to shoot her in the belly.

What a stupid, uninformed article. While THE HUNGER GAMES is a series for young adults, that’s where the likeness to TWILIGHT ends. It’s got fans like Stephen King, action like you wouldn’t believe and a love story that’s refreshingly against the grain. But I guess you were more interested in using words like “catfight” to describe actresses going up for a role or spouting off your ignorant fanboy opinions than doing even basic research on what you were writing about.

My first time at this site! Will be the last!

I agree with you. What kind of a deranged, stupid, and lazy article have they written!? The first time I heard about The Hunger Games, I didn’t want to read it not because it was like Twilight, but rather because I thought it was too violent. It is absolutely nothing like Twilight because:

    A. Katniss is not a dumb and needy main character, like Bella.
    B. Suzanne Collins is a far better writer than Stephanie Meyer.
    C. Love is NOT the main focus in The Hunger Games, which is very refreshing.
    D. There are no Team Edward or Team Jacobs in The Hunger Games.
    E. The Hunger Games is the best frickin book of the century and the best book that you’ll ever read.

And no, the male characters don’t fight or stay shirtless for God knows how long. That is extremely stereotypical and to even compare The Hunger Games to Twilight is the worst understatement that I’ve ever seen. I’m never going to go on this website again, you uninformed, first impressionist!

By the way, Hailee Steinfeld and Callan McAuliffe are the best pair for Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark!
