And why shouldn’t James Franco have a class taught of him at at unknown university? His Funny or Die clips alone are a masters class in and of themselves. No less than James Franco himself thought this to be a good idea, so, in conjunction with Columbia College Hollywood, he is teaching a class to offering aspiring auteurs to “create a cinematic image of James Franco.”
These days it seems as though Franco might be having a little too much fun with his own image. There’s nothing wrong with writing books, being in every film imaginable, or even doing some goofy comedy sketches, but lately Franco seems to live in some sort of postmodern universe where HE is the art. Oops. I’ve gone and confused myself again.
Franco will oversee the class via Skype, and the classes themselves will be used as footage for students’ final projects. Ugh. He’s not making this easy to report. In case there was any question, the class is largely Franco’s idea, another step in his plan to exist in every facet of every person’s being at every moment. As far as the execution of that plan goes, I’ll admit – he’s doing a pretty good job. (A.V. Club)
