J.K. Simmons Secures Some Of Wahlberg’s ‘Contraband’

Tuesday, March 15 by

J.K. Simmons, a man who can play a newspaper editor and a neo-Nazi jailhouse rapist equally well, has signed on for his next roll. Luckily(?) sexual assault isn’t in the cards this time. Simmons revealed to the A.V. Club that he will be joining Mark Wahlberg in Contraband, and that he’ll be playing a captain. With no more information given, I’ll just assume it’s a captain of the kangaroo variety. And if that turns out to be wrong, God help the theatergoers sitting next to me.

Contraband also stars Ben Foster, Kate Beckinsale, and Giovani Ribisi. The film follows a security guard and former smuggler (Wahlberg) who, facing financial troubles, is roped back into his old life. It’s looking less likely that a kangaroo captain will be crucial to the plot. The film doesn’t open until March 16, 2012, so I’ll keep my legs crossed until then. Or is it fingers?
