Bryan Singer chose to leave the franchise after the second X-Men film, we were subjected to the terrible X-Men 3 from Brett Ratner, the dumb X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and the shaky (admit it) X-Men: First Class. However, by virtue of not being as bad as X-Men 3 or Wolverine, First Class was considered a hit and return to form, thereby leading to the upcoming sequel which will be directed by Bryan Singer.
Now that the only man who has been truly successful with this material is back at the helm, we can rejoice that we’ll see the sequel we’ve deserved for six years. But the good news doesn’t stop there. Singer is also apparently getting the band back together. He announced yesterday via Twitter that both Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen118 will be reprising their roles as Professor X and Magneto in some capacity.
