As we get closer to Christmas, crappier movies start hitting the theaters and the good stuff from the past summer starts hitting DVD. Today, we got the full info on two fo the season’s biggest DVD releases. Hit the jump for what you can expect from Indy when it drops on October 14th and Hellboy II on November 11th.
Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Available on special-edition 2-disc DVD and Blu-ray. Extras include: Production Diary, Warrior Makeup, The Crystal Skulls, Iconic Props, The Effects of Indy, Pre-Visualization Sequences, Galleries and some photographs you’ll probably never get around to looking at. It’s just going to be the normal cut of the movie, though, which leads me to believe that there will be a director’s cut later on.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army
It’s available in three different version, including regular DVD, three-disc special edition and Blu-ray. All of them come with: Feature Commentary with Director Guillermo del Toro, Feature Commentary with Cast Members Jeffrey Tambor, Selma Blair and Luke Goss [No Hellboy himself?], Troll Market Tour with Guillermo del Toro, Deleted Scenes and an animated epilogue comic.
People who shell out the extra money for the three-disc set get: a Prologue from the director, a two-hour behind-the-scenes and a look inside the making of the puppets, which could prove to be kind of cool if you’re a special effects nerd like myself.
The Blu-ray looks to be the best bet, though since it has the most features, including BD Live, which means you can access all kinds of awesome features, assuming your Blu-ray player can handle it. One of the coolest features is the My Chat, which lets you sync up your movie with another BD live user and chat on screen during it. It’s probably not the best way to watch the movie the first time, but it could be cool on repeat viewings. Or, if you’re looking for a way to communicate with your mistress without leaving a paper trail.
