Everyone is aware of the old adage, “if you adapt a video game into a movie, you will create an unholy abomination.” The highest rated film on Rotten Tomatoes‘ video game adaptation list was Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, which got as high as 44% fresh. Yikes. However, sometimes game movies make quite a bit of cash, like the Resident Evil series has for Screen Gems. So Screen Gems is gonna load Capcom’s Devil May Cry into the Hollywood Game System and press play, in order to make some serious gold coin.
Gonna end the non-specific video game puns right… here. Awesome.
Devil May Cry, which was initially developed as a Resident Evil game, before it was spun-off into its own series, follows demon hunter Dante on a quest to avenge the death of his mother. He could just visit a grief counselor, but that wouldn’t be much of a game, I guess. Unless his grief group consisted of demons. Anyway, the script will be written by Kyle Ward, who penned the upcoming game-adaption Kane & Lynch.
