Ryan Reynolds may finally get the chance to play Deadpool as he was violently and sarcastically envisioned.

Twentieth Century Fox announced yesterday that they will move forward with the X-Men spinoff Deadpool, with the film assigned a February 12, 2016 release date. Tim Miller will direct and though there is no deal in place yet for Reynolds, it is expected he will star as the mercenary for the second time. But it is probably for the best that we all forget the mishandled version featured in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

The announcement comes after test footage of the film leaked online and the resounding response was, "THAT. IS. AWESOME." Reynolds recently spoke to the Niagara Falls Review about the response.

"There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage, you sort of feel like, 'Oh, so we weren't crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.' It's interesting to see the power of the internet. It's awe-inspiring, actually. And it's neat that Twitter and Facebook and Instagram can move mountains when used in the right way."
