A hullabaloo went kablooey last week when the Oscar winner’s Black Swan dance double claimed Natalie Portman‘s actual dance time in the film is around 5%. Though he won’t be setting foot in Japan, Darren Aronofsky will definitely step in to defend Portman.
In a defense statement, he had his editor go through the film to analyze each shot featuring Portman with ants in her pants.
“111 are Natalie Portman untouched. 28 are her dance double Sarah Lane. If you do the math that’s 80% Natalie Portman. What about duration? The shots that feature the double are wide shots and rarely play for longer than one second. There are two complicated longer dance sequences that we used face replacement. Even so, if we were judging by time over 90% would be Natalie Portman I am responding to this to put this to rest and to defend my actor. Natalie sweated long and hard to deliver a great physical and emotional performance. And I don’t want anyone to think that’s not her they are watching. It is.”
This calls into question the reports from earlier today that Portman used a butt double on Your Highness. Will David Gordon Green step in to defend Portman’s turd-cutter? If not, I’d say we need to get Portman and the alleged butt double in here for a comparison. While we wait, I’ll close the blinds and make sure we’ve got all the supplies needed for a spank test. (EW)
