Back in the day, WWE wrestlers used to be crazy ripped, and that led to awesome action figures and way less awesome steroid overdoses. These days, wrestlers and action stars have slimmed down, so it’s no surprise that Bane – who many know as Batman’s hyper-muscled, luchador mask-wearing freak villain – will not be quite as masked or muscled in The Dark Knight Rises.
Actor Tom Hardy, who’s portraying Bane in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Batventure, was on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man show in the UK. Sounds like the character’s going back to its comic book roots as a smart adversary to The Bat, rather than Bane’s portrayal in Batman & Robin, a film that’s shockingly hard to un-remember. When asked if he’d be donning the colorful S&M “gimp” mask…
Well, only if I feel like it. No. Again Chris Nolan will revisit that territory entirely. I wouldn’t go by that at all. Plus, that’s a lot of weight to put on and I’ve gotta start shooting in May so I’m gonna go pack up to about 13 – 14 stone [198 lbs]. I’m 12 [168 lbs] and a bit now so I’ve got 3 months to do that.
Haha, “stone.” That dude’s not American. And bulking up to 198 still probably won’t give Bane those vain-y muscle bubbles we remember so vaguely.
