Logic dictates that when you achieve great renown with a moving epic on life in the slums of Brazil, you probably don’t follow it up with a biopic of Greek shipping billionaire. Well, Fernando Meirelles and Bráulio Mantovani, the director and screenwriter of City of God, respectively, disagree and are going to proceed with their Aristotle Onassis biopic whether you approve or not.
Rather than focus on Ari Onassis’ soap opera-like dalliances and scandals, the duo is rumored to be basing their film on the book Nemesis: The True Story of Aristotle Onassis, Jackie O, and the Love Triangle That Brought Down the Kennedys, which focuses more on Onassis’ adversarial relationship with JFK‘s brother Robert. The discord between the two led to allegations that Onassis financed Kennedy’s assassination.
So rather than just peddle some tabloid fodder, this duo will tell a compelling side of the story that has been overlooked. Considering the opus they put together with City of God, I would get excited about Meirelles and Montovani announcing a remake of Troop Beverly Hills. (Vulture)
