Blockbuster Writing Duo Breaks Up, Meaning We Might Not Get ‘Spider-Man’ Movies For A While

Please stand by, Mr. Garfield. Your call is important to us, and someone will be with you shortly.

The project list of what Robert0 Orci and Alex Kurtzman is pretty damn impressive. Together, the duo had written Transformers, Star Trek, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Hmm. That’s probably creeping up on $3 billion in box office revenue right there.

But the magic’s over, folks. Orci is taking over writing for the new Star Trek while J.J. Abrams does some other outer-space movie, and Kurtzman will be doing a Spidey spinoff about Venom.

Now, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 CAN be made without one of these two guys (or both) writing it, but the duo’s reluctance seems to be more from the studio not knowing what it’s going to do than it does from their own disinterest. Does Sony want to reboot? Wait five years? Do an ensemble superhero film featuring Peter Parker?

It probably wants to do all those things, but knows it can’t. We’ll see…
