With J.J. Abrams going two-and-out with the Star Trek reboot, it's time for the lucrative franchise to find a helmer, and the name being tossed around right now is Attack The Block's Joe Cornish. Cornish has enjoyed an upward trajectory since the 2011 film and would have to balance Star Trek 3 with his adaptation of Snow Crash.

Nonetheless, the trend of having "outsiders" helming action movies is a welcome one that should allow audiences to see more dimensions out of their favorite characters, as well as providing a mainstream springboard for the directors themselves. Ruben Fleischer, Sam Raimi, and Edgar Wright all come to mind.

The premise of the third Star Trek isn't know, as it's assumed that any director would want to get their fingerprints all over the plot, so the studio is staying mum for now.
