In October, O'Neal suffered a large stroke that left him unable to speak, and he never fully recovered. Despite having been a working comic for almost 20 years, it seems as though O'Neal's star was just beginnign to rise, as he scored his first TV comedy special last February for Comedy Central.

Fellow comedian Doug Benson, upon hearing the news proclaimed, "A sad day for comedians and comedy in general." For those unfamiliar with O'Neal's work, here's a clip from the aforementioned stand-up special on Comedy Central.
