Tupac Shakur, the iconic gangster rapper who was enjoying a burgeoning film career at the time of his death, reportedly auditioned for the role of Mace Windu in Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace.

This just in: This story is awesome.

The news of his auditioned and consideration for the part came from Death Row engineer Rick Clifford and hasn't yet been substantiated. Nonetheless, the story is cool. Clifford said that Samuel L. Jackson got 2Pac's part, which we shouldn't hold against Jackson, if only because 2Pac was dead when the project got around to filming.

Given the reputation of 2Pac, and in laying that against the reputation of the Phantom Menace, it's probably for the best that he didn't make an appearance.
