While RLM goes on about technicalities, equally die-hard fans ignore them. But at least RLM’s review was more than ranting; it was entertaining & insightful. For me, the review wasn’t just about the movie, it was an insight into George Lucas as a director, and what to look for when critiquing film & franchise. E.g. as I look at the Star Wars franchise of books and games; now all I see is a bunch of improvised Warcraft saga with a lightsaber and a Lucas seal of approval… You see that?

What I have seen of those 108 pages is just pure nitpicking (“RLM was slightly wrong about X, therefore is RLM dumb and wrong and X is invalid!”), and does not really address any of the major points RLM brought up (The lack of rememberable characters and emotional connection with the audience).

No amount of pages, and especially those 108 in question, can’t make The Phantom Menace not suck.

Saw ep1 and thought.. well, they’re just trying to hook the new kids, the next one will be more like Star Wars. Went to see ep2 and walked out halfway thru.. didn’t even see the third one til i watched Plinkett’s review. Didn’t miss much.
