The main premise is usually the same: boy and girl meet, boy  and girl have negative or conflicting feelings about each other in one way or another and are kept apart throughout the movie until the end when the couple comes together, fall in love or back in love, and live happily ever after.

  1. "(500) Days of Summer". This romantic comedy is a smart look at relationships that are often one sided. This movie stars Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The girl doesn't believe in true love, and the guy does, making for a huge conflict.
  2. "Away We Go". This movie is romantic in two ways:  in adventure and love. John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph star as a couple who travel the U.S. to find a place to start their family. The stops along the way to reunite with old friends and family provides for hilarious snippets of life. In the end, the couple overcome the conflicting advice they're given and make their own way.
  3. "Management". This romantic comedy is an engaging movie starring Jennifer Anniston and Steve Zahn. The woman travels for business and stays in a remote motel managed by the man's family. He pursues her and a quick fling ensues. Throughout the movie, boy chases girl across the country and grows up in the process.
  4. "The Proposal". Sandra Bullock plays the boss, and Ryan Reynolds is her assistant. In this romantic comedy, Bullock's character, a Canadian working in the U.S., needs to marry and quickly to be able to stay in America. She forces her assistant to marry her. A trip to visit his family, including Betty White, makes for a hilarious movie.
  5. "He's Just Not That Into You". This romantic comedy is based on the book by the same name. The movie "He's Just Not That Into You" follows several couples, some married, some not, and people who are single. Their ups and downs of dating, living together, being able to commit, and staying married are followed. Stars include Jennifer Anniston, Drew Barrymore, Bradley Cooper, and Justin Long.
  6. "New in Town". This romantic comedy movie is a classic of the genre. Renee Zellweger plays a woman who comes to a small town for her job. She meets Harry Connick Jr.'s character, a local widower. The sparks fly but it takes a good part of the movie for the two to come together.
  7. "Bride Wars". This romantic comedy leans more toward a chick flick with the stars in opposition over the date of their wedding. "Bride Wars" stars Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway as the brides. Their friendship is tested up to the last minutes of the movie.
  8. "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past". In this romantic comedy movie, Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner star. McConaughey's character attends his brother's wedding to try to convince him not to get married. But he is visited by his former, present, and future girlfriends. This fantasy is mainly eye candy with McConaughey's character playing the consummate handsome bachelor.
  9. "Confessions of a Shopaholic". Isla Fisher and Hugh Dancy star in this romantic comedy of 2009. Based on the book by the same name, this movie tracks a woman who lives to shop. She falls for a man at work who, for some reason, finds her attractive enough to overlook this over the top disorder.
  10. "The Ugly Truth". This romantic comedy features Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler. Their conflict is evident from the first scene together. Their language is not for the faint of heart.
