The top 10 animated movies thrill both children and adults alike with smart stories that also entertain and never bore the little ones. These movies stretch from the early days of cinema to the more recent works of Pixar and remain some of the best films ever made, regardless of genre.

“Wall-E” – It was not an easy task, making a movie that consists of very little dialogue with the hopes of attracting youngsters. This remains a top animated movie because it succeeds, by creating a world that includes a cute robot and a story that keeps adults glued to the screen as well.

“Up” – Another Pixar movie, “Up” also is a difficult sell, asking kids to follow the exploits of an old man and a young boy scout. The opening scene alone makes this one of the top animated movies ever, as it is heartbreaking and sets the template for one of the best movies of the last ten years, period.

“Toy Story 3” – The first two movies in the “Toy Story” franchise were spectacular achievements. However, the third movie took the ideas from the first two and finally capped it off with the toys and their beloved owner Andy finally saying goodbye. It is an Oscar contender and one of the top animated movies of all time.

“Pinocchio” – Disney created a number of classic animated films throughout its illustrious existence but “Pinocchio” is the closest the studio came to perfection, making a flawless animated movie. The movie tells the story of a puppet that wants to be a real boy and has great songs and wonderful animation.

“Lion King” – Disney attacked the story of “Hamlet” in this tale of a lion cub who believes he caused his father’s death and flees home. While away his uncle takes control and ravages the jungle until the lion king returns to take his rightful position as ruler.

“Lady and the Tramp” – This Disney movie is a tale of love as a boy from the wrong side of the tracks meets and falls for a girl living a pampered life. It is the plot of screwball comedies since the 30’s but in this story of two dogs, it is one of the top animated movies of all time.

“The Fox and the Hound” – This story of friendship between a hunter and its prey is a touching example of how Disney knows how to create movies and touch the heartstrings regardless of the situation. This top animated movie remains one of the few success stories of a slightly downtime for Disney studios.

“Snow White” – Possibly the most innovative animated movie ever created, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves” not only stands the test of time as one of the best in the genre but also ushered in the era of the Disney Princess and Prince Charming characters.

“Wallace & Gromit in The Case of the Were-Rabbit” – Aardman Animations created this stop-motion animated movie in 2005 and won the Academy Award for Best Animated movie. The story is brilliant, the animation is perfect and it remains one of the best animated films of the last ten years.

“Beauty and the Beast” – One of the most beautiful animated movies ever created, “Beauty and the Beast” was the last movie to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Picture before the animated category was created, although others have earned nominations since the expansion to ten films. It retells the classic fairy tale and remains flawless.
