The 7 Greatest SNL Characters Of The 2000's
"Saturday Night Live" has captivated audiences for decades with its wit, hilarious skits and guest celebrities. Every season there are a dozen recurring cast members, and every week a new celebrity joins the cast and participates in skits too. They make fun of each other, themselves and other celebrities. However, there are a few recurring skits that come back every couple of episodes. Here is our list of the best SNL characters of the 2000's.
"The Dakota Fanning Show"
During 2006 and 2007, the wonderful Amy Poehler had a recurring skit on SNL in which she played Dakota Fanning. In this skit Fanning is a young intellectual actress who hosts a talk show for other celebrity guests. However, the only problem is that she cannot relate to a single celebrity because of her vast knowledge and superiority. Guests on The Dakota Fanning Show included Shia LeBeouf, Drew Barrymore, and Ellen Page.
The Californians is a skit from SNL that aired from 2012 to 2013. It shows a highly exaggerated version of life in California, including clothing, accents, and personalities. Usually this skit involved Bill Hader and Kristin Wiig, but it also had some very famous celebrities. In 2013 Justin Beiber was a guest, and in 2012, Mick Jagger.
Gay Hitler was a SNL skit debuted in 2001 that went on until 2002. In it, Chris Kattan plays Hitler, who is actually gay. He wears pink instead of camouflage, and says things like "Sprechen sie dick?". This skit rarely involved other celebrities and was only a few seconds long, but each time Kattan took over the SNL screen, he made it count and made us laugh whole heartedly!
Its hard to choose seven best characters from SNL in the 2000s, but we cannot forget Pranksters! Pranksters was a very prominent skit on SNL from 2002 to 2003. It's host was Seth Meyers, but also featured other celebrities. Meyers and his guests would play pranks on other people and each other. One very prominent guest was Christopher Walken in 2003. This skit was especially loved by SNL's audience.

Debbie Downer was a major charactor in SNL from 2004 to 2008. Debbie always complains about everything–from her surroundings, to her food, and completely unrelated topics–like how she can't have children. "The Cougar Den"
The Cougar Den features three cougars, Kristen Wiig, Amy Poehler, and Casey Wilson, as Jacqueline Seka, Deidre Knicks and Toni Ward respectively. These women in their forties are striving to hold on to their youth by chasing younger men and wearing clothes they find in the junior's section. Celebrity guests on The Cougar Den include Cameron Diaz, Ashton Kutcher, James Franco and Alec Baldwin.
Hollywood Dish is a parody of Hollywood talk shows in which Kristin Wiig and Bill Hader play talk show hosts. They interview celebrities as themselves in an extremely awkward and creepy way. They stare, smile and basically make the celebrity interview themselves. Celebrities on Hollywood dish include Scarlett Johansson, Taylor Swift and Jennifer Lopez.
