Nothing builds Hollywood-style tension like staring at a computer screen while a guy types in lines and lines of code, right? Okay, as ridiculous as this premise sounds, it actually works pretty well within the parameters of a story. Sure, movie hackers might not resemble real life hackers in any way, but since when are movies all about realism, anyway? These five movie hackers not only first-class <span data-scayt_word=techies, but some of them also discovered government secrets and even threatened the safety of the very world!

"Die Hard 4: Live Free or Die Hard" (2007)

This nonstop action packed masterpiece takes hacking to the next level. Imagine being able to control street lights, subways, tapping into government communications center and shutting down utilities along the East? All controlled by a mobile keyboard, some monitors and the motivation factor – millions in dollars. The girlfriend of the main character dies and he wants to take down the only two people getting in his way – Farrell, the hacker, and John McClane, the super cop.

"Sneakers" (1992)

Government agents and experts specializing in testing security systems drives this hacker movie in this aptly titled film. The experts are blackmailed into retrieving a black box that, <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/unknown' class='linkify' target='_blank'>unknown</a> by them, could decode all global encryption systems. But Martin Bishop, head of the group of experts, faces one dilemma. The Government agents are not who they say they are.</p>

These intelligent hackers can crack any code. Even when it means erasing a person's existence. They come across their match who turns the tables inside of their perfect hacking world. He sets the hackers up to becoming fall guys for his evil hacking plans. The authorities seem to be satisfied taking down the hackers, or at least the wrong bad guys.

"WarGames" (1983)

A kid taps into codes which unleashes a one of a kind nuclear war game. This was the first film focused on hacking into government computers for fun followed by the government searching for answers on stopping the game before warheads actually land. Spoiler alert! Right when the nuclear warheads lands the government realizes that it was actually a game. No one died in this hacker inspired film.

"Swordfish" (2001)

Swordfish is a hard core hacking movie involving a super-encryption blocking millions of dollars from Black Cell, a unit headed by Gabriel Shear. Shear wants to finance vengeance war against counter-terrorism. But he can't without breaking the code. Stanley Jobson, a hacker with mad skills, steps in unwillingly to assist.  All he wants to do is see his daughter again.

The Goldeneye hacker program and weaponry satellite has 007's attention in this classic hacking movie. Pierce Bronson steps up against digital intelligence with his smooth looks, sweet tricks, and those classy sex pots as female scientists. "GoldenEye" then faces a swift end with a bang.

"The Matrix" (1999)

Who doesn't like "The Matrix" plot? A computer hacker who ends up filtered inside of a group up against the machines. The most interesting twist is when the main character figures out his role in the movie. There is much more to it than that!  Guess you'll have to watch to figure it out.
