Monday, February 27 by Danielle Vitali

How far would you go to land the job of your dreams? Driving two hours to and from your office? Working long hours? Maybe even working on weekends? In the world of Hollywood, sometimes a little more is required. After all, these folks get huge money to pretend they're someone else, so the price they pay for the privilege can sometimes be a little high. When a role calls for a super-skinny character, a good actor has to make himself look like he fits the bill. These six actors lost extreme weight for films.

6. Colin Farrell, " Triage" (2009)

It's no secret that Colin Farrell has had drug-abuse problems in the past so when he emerged 44 pounds lighter critics and fans were afraid he was back to his old ways. But thankfully, Farrell was still sober and had shed the weight for his role in 2009's "Triage." In "Triage," Farrell plays a photojournalist who returns home from war-torn Bosnia without his colleague.

5. 50 Cent, "Things Fall Apart" (2011)

The thirty-six year old rapper (whose real name is Curtis Jackson) claims he did it by going on a strict liquid diet and working out three hours a day. Loosing weight is not an easy feat, but Tom Hanks manages to make it look easy. Hanks lost 30 pounds for his Academy Award-winning role as AIDS patient Andrew Beckett in 1994's Philadelphia. Six years later Hanks did it again by losing an astonishing 55 pounds for his award-winning role in Castaway. The man seems to be good at almost everything he tries, so why should starving himself be any different?

3. Christian Bale, "The Machinist" (2004)

It's pretty unnerving to see the buff Bale looking sickly skinny. Bale is a method actor, an actor who becomes their character throughout the duration of shooting the film. Therefore it's no surprise that Bale lost 63 pounds for his role as an industrial worker who hasn't slept in a year  in "The Machinist." Sticking to coffee, one can of tuna, and an apple a day, Bale went from 173 pounds down to 110 pounds. He ideally wanted to lose 10 more pounds but producers stepped in and refused to let him. Bale also lost a significant amount of weight to play crack-addicted Dicky Eklund in The Fighter.

2. Aaron Behr, "0000" (2011)
