Best Movie Soundtracks Song List

Thursday, July 28 by Lennox West

Movie soundtracks are regularly recorded to accompany motion pictures as you will see with these beset movie soundtracks song list. Some of the songs on the albums become so popular that they are more memorable than the film they accompanied. There are so many examples of this over the years that it's difficult to write just one list of the best movie soundtrack songs. Here are ten of the best tracks from Hollywood movies.

  1. "I Will Always Love You" - This song from the motion picture "The Bodyguard" was actually a remake of an earlier country song by Dolly Parton. Whitney Houston, who both starred in the film and sung most of the soundtrack, re-recorded the ballad to almost instant radio success. This single has to be included in a list of the best movie soundtrack songs – it was number one on the Billboard charts for fourteen weeks, a record at the time.
  2. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" – Sung by Judy Garland, this song is from the 1939 musical "The Wizard of Oz." The lyrics are powerful, describing a place to which Garland's character, Dorothy, wants to escape to find a better life. The song's title was used as the name of a 2011 musical based on the original film.
  3. "Stayin' Alive" - The soundtrack for the film "Saturday Night Fever" is often listed as one of the best movie soundtracks ever, but this song is one of the best on the album. Written and performed by The Bee Gees, the disco track has become synonymous with the mood of the 1970s.
  4. "Lose Yourself" – Rapper Eminem made his acting debut in the semi-autobiographical film "8 Mile" and recorded this song as the title track. The movie, which described a white rapper's rise in Detroit, was accompanied by the song's lyrics about making the most of life's opportunities.
  5. "Purple Rain" - Another semi-autobiographical film, "Purple Rain" starred Prince and Apollonia Kotero. Prince, who played musician The Kid, sang the title song at the end of the film, after claiming his place in the Minnesota club scene. This album is also frequently listed as one of the best movie soundtracks of all time.
  6. "Eye of the Tiger" - This song, performed by the group Survivor, proved to be a one-hit wonder for the artists, but a major selling point for the film "Rocky III." Many athletes select this track as one of the best movie soundtrack songs, using it as background music to work out.
  7. "Maniac" – Originally written as a song about a serial killer, the lyrics to this song were tweaked to suit the movie "Flashdance," starring Jennifer Beals. Michael Sembello, who composed and performed the song, never had another big hit after this one. "Maniac" was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1984.
  8. "Regulators" - Many people who are unfamiliar with West Coast rap know who Warren G is because of this song. Featured on the soundtrack for "Above the Rim," starring Tupac Shakur and Duane Martin, the track sampled Michael McDonald's "I Keep Forgettin."
  9. "My Heart Will Go On" -  In 1997, the film "Titanic" became the biggest-grossing movie to date, taking in over $1 billion in revenue worldwide. The theme song of the film, sung by Celine Dion, was heard everywhere for months. The track quickly became Dion's biggest hit and one of the best movie soundtrack songs, staying on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for twenty weeks.
  10. "Gangsta's Paradise" – Rapper Coolio got his first and only Grammy Award for this track from the movie soundtrack for "Dangerous Minds," starring Michelle Pfieffer. Coolio, who had been popular in the rap industry for some time, made his crossover debut to the pop charts with this song, which went to number thirteen on the Billboard charts in thirteen countries.
