Strippers used to be looked at with disgust. Dancing naked in front of ogling men, each of whom are throwing money toward them so that they can continue to disrobe, has never been thought of as a dream profession. But underneath the stern exterior, which they need to protect them from the more unruly and forthcoming members of the strip club establishment, some strippers possess a heart of gold. They are just looking to get some cash behind them so that they can lead a better life. Cinema has often looked to honor these characters, and here are nine movie strippers with hearts of gold.
1. Marisa Tomei, "The Wrestler."
Rourke lead a better life. Constantly rejecting his advances until the end of the film, Tomei looks to have left her stripping ways behind her until Rourke decides he needs to wrestle and puts his life on the line in the ring.
2. "Full Monty."
All that these strippers were looking for was a steady income. Pushed to the extreme, they decide to remove their clothes for a wage and ultimately prove really popular amongst the ladies of Sheffield.
3. Demi Moore, "Striptease."
Demi was paid a record-breaking $12 million for her role as the single mom who stripped for a living. She had a heart of gold, but it's likely that most viewers were there for the other chest-related things she was showing off. Like, not her heart.
4. Elizabeth Berkley, "Showgirls."
All that Berkeley's character dreams of is becoming the world's premier exotic dancer. In doing so, she battles against the seedy underworld of the Las Vegas mafia, consistently removing her clothes and acting like butter wouldn't melt in her mouth.
5. Natalie Portman, "Closer."
Natalie Portman is one of the most beautiful women in the world, so the revelation that she was going to get her kit off for Mike Nichols 2004 film was enough to make even priests rejoice. Her character, like the others on this list, is ultimately benevolent, even if it doesn't always show.
6. Pamela Anderson, " Barb Wire."
The filmmakers behind this mid nineties masterpiece knew what the audience were coming to watch. Within the opening seconds of "Barb Wire" Pamela is strutting about on stage with her breasts falling out of her top. It ain't going to win any Oscars, but no film has ever connected with it's audience that quickly. Believe it or not, the film is a re-imagining of Casablanca, but with a lot more nudity.
7. Jessica Alba, "Sin City."
Okay, so "heart of gold" may be a bit of a stretch. But, when the zombie apocalypse comes down, you'd be hard pressed to find a better stripper to have on your side. She'll turn the tide of the battle as quickly as she turns you on.
9. Salma Hayek, "Dogma."
Being asked to play a stripper in multiple movies means that you must have something going for you. If your name is Salma Hayek, then you definitely have 2 big assets that got you the job. In Kevin Smith's "Dogma" she helps to defeat a pair of rogue angels and other assorted baddies, all whilst remaining the most beautiful woman in the room.
