The capture and death of Osama bin Laden was destined to be a movie. Several movies, even. "Zero Dark Thirty" excited audiences with its portrayal of the mission that led to Osama's fall, but more than that, it highlighted the "special ops" genre. After all, there are military movies, and then there are movies about missions and operations. So if that's your thing, here are seven more movies like "Zero Dark Thirty" sure to breach and clear their way to your heart.
1. "Black Hawk Down"
In the pre-9/11 world, it was all about Somalia. Set in the city of Mogadishu, "Black Hawk Down" weaves several tales around the offensive against Somali outlaws and their brutal regime. Full of tragedy, camaraderie, and triumph, this film remains a favorite among fans of war movies.
Marky Mark has left the Funky Bunch way behind. Now, he's a former sharpshooter, but in true Hollywood fashion, he's about to get pulled back for one last mission. You get to see some exotic locales, some sniping (of course), and a nifty "suicide/homicide" device. Not bad, right?
3. "Delta Force"
There are elite military forces. Then there's Delta. When it comes time to get the results you need, you call on Delta. Other military forces around the world have taken their cues from Delta. And Chuck Norris…there are elite action heroes. Then there's Chuck. We heard that when Chuck Norris…ah, never mind. Suffice to say, Chuck does his think in this one.
Not necessarily military, but para-military at least. Besides, are you going to be the one to tell the SWAT team that their operations are less special than those carries out by the armed forces? We though not. "SWAT" is a pulse pounder if there ever was one, plus it's based on a TV show. That's cool, right?
5. "Executive Decision"
There's a rumor that in real life, Steven Segal was a covert military, secret service, ultra-classified bad-ass, not just a greasy dude who snapped arms and ran kind of weird (seriously, watch him run). If all of that is true, it didn't do him much good in this ops movie, because he got peaced out. Take that, Segal!
6. "Navy SEALS"
Seriously, with a name like this, you know more or less what's coming. The filmmakers could maybe throw you a curve ball, work in a whole bunch of love stories and comedy, but you don't want that, do you? You want ass-kicking, hair-raising military mission stuff. Which is just what you get.
7. "Tropic Thunder"
