At its heart, “Mallrats” is a big softy of a movie, with two friends waking up to the reality that they need to get off their apathetic butts and actually bother fighting for the women they love. With enough laughs for men and women, neither you nor your special buddy will regret watching this romantic comedy. Brodie and Rene’s fight in the elevator is one of the greatest fight scenes for the glory of love.
“Benny & Joon.”
A sweet, untraditional tale of a strange couple finding love that avoids the pitfall of turning into sappy trash, “Benny and Joon” is a great romantic comedy. The combination of a mentally ill artist and an illiterate Buster Keaton fanatic doesn’t seem like a symbiotic match made in heaven, but Johnny Depp and Mary Stuart Masterson pull it off with a devotion to their characters that is both charming and intriguing.
