5 Best Disney Movie Couples
The list of the 5 best Disney movie couples include some of cinema’s all-time greatest characters. Disney has been churning out classic movies for decades and in that time they have created many beloved and entertaining couples. Often not in love until the very end—and sometimes not in love at all—these couples are unforgettable.
Belle and the Beast. Certainly the best Disney movie couple are the characters Belle and the Beast from the 1991 instant classic, “Beauty and the Beast.” In this story, Belle gives herself up to live in the cursed Beast’s castle in exchange for her father’s freedom. Over the course of several events she comes to find that he is truly kind inside despite a rough exterior and her eventual falling in love with him breaks a curse that had been placed on him and his abode many years prior. With the lifting of the curse, he turns into a handsome man and his furniture back into his servants.
Jasmine and Aladdin. These two are the protagonists from the 1992 film “Aladdin” and are certainly one of the best Disney movie couples. Aladdin is a down-on-his luck street rat and Jasmine is the princess of the land. They have a nice interaction while she visit the town incognito, but after he makes his grand entrance as a prince—thanks to some work by Genie—he acts arrogant and rubs her the wrong way. He then has to prove to her that he really is a nice and humble guy and just as he gets close to getting her to fall in love with him, he must fend off the evil Jafar. They appear in two sequels.
Mickey and Minnie. Mickey and Minnie used to be one of the best Disney movie couples, though they rarely are featured in films these days. After losing the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Walt Disney created a new character—Mickey—on which he built a multi-media empire. Minnie was introduced to give Mickey a love interest and to for him to have a partner in his many films.
Roger and Jessica Rabbit. Roger Rabbit was the star character in the 1988 film “Who Framed Roger Rabbit.” Roger is a silly, lisping rabbit, but his wife, Jessica, is a sultry, red-headed vixen. Though an unlikely couple, Jessica proves to be fully committed to him and does whatever she can to keep him out of trouble, making them one of the best Disney movie couples.
Timon and Pumbaa. Timon and Pumbaa are about as far as you can get from being a romantic duo, but they are still one of the best Disney movie couples. A meerkat and warthog, respectively, this duo debuted in 1994’s mega-hit, “The Lion King.” They are a happy-go-lucky couple with the song “Hakuna Matata,” meaning “no worries,” as their theme song. But after befriending their lion friend Simba, they rush to his aid when he decides to reclaim his throne. They are some of the most memorable Disney characters from the last several decades.
