  1. "Casablanca" (1942). This World War 2 drama set in Africa follows star-crossed lovers who meet again, only to find out that their relationship is not as it seems. One of the most classic romantic movies of all times, it stars legends Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Casablanca won Oscars for both Best Director and Best Picture.
  2. "Amelie" (2001). This quirky, romantic French movie is about an ingenue named Amelie who charms everyone around her and discovers love along the way. Its star, Audrey Tautou, is also known for starring opposite Tom Hanks in The DaVinci Code. The movie was nominated for five Oscars, including Best Foreign Film.
  3. "City Lights" (1931). Can a silent, black-and-white film be one of the most romantic movies of all time? In "City Lights," a tramp played by Charlie Chaplin tries to help a flower girl he's fallen in love with. This classic has been preserved by the National Film Registry.
  4. "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" (2004).   6. "It Happened One Night…" (1934). This comedic romance, directed by the legendary Frank Capra, is the story of a spoiled heiress who falls for a newspaper reporter. The pair are played by Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. The movie won five Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Actress, and Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
  7. "Gone With the Wind" (1939). This classic American romance is the story of Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara, who share a clouded romance in the South during the Civil War.   8. "In the Mood for Love" (2000). The only Asian film on the list of 10 best romantic movies, this movie tells the story of neighbors who become close friends when they learn their spouses are having an affair. It is set in 1960's Hong Kong.
  9. "Nights of Cabiria" (1957). In this romantic Italian film, a prostitute in Rome finally finds a man who appreciates her after years of living a tragic life. It was directed by the legendary Federico Fellini. The movie won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language film.
  10. "His Girl Friday" (1940). Cary Grant stars as a newspaper editor who is trying to get back together with his reporter ex-wife. This comedy, one of the classic romantic movies of all time, is part of the National Film Registry.
