Movies are a favorite past time and everyone has their own list of the ten most popular movie characters. Fortunately, there is no short supply to choose from and the heroes, heroines, and villains on this list are sure to spark the imagination.

  1. “James Bond” Bond, James Bond is an international icon. The star of author Ian Fleming’s "007" series has been played by Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig.
  2. “Darth Vadar” This seven-foot-tall, black clad villain is the epitome of evil in the "Star Wars" universe. His metallic sound, as voiced by actor James Earl Jones, is instantly recognizable.
  3. “The Joker” This bad guy is a popular movie character in the "Batman" series that we love to hate. Jack Nicholson created an Oscar nominated performance. Heath Ledger made the character his own in one of his last brilliant roles.
  4. “Neo” This character from the "Matrix" movies shot to stardom with his mind-bending acrobatics. And he made black sunglasses and matching trench coat look super cool.
  5. “Edward Cullen” It doesn’t get any more popular than this pasty-faced heartthrob from the "Twilight" saga. Edward Cullen is as popular with adult women as he is with teen girls.
  6. “Batman” The Caped Crusader The Dark Knight, Bruce Wayne; it doesn't matter what he's called; he is one of the most popular movie characters ever. Something about this character grabs peoples’ imaginations.
  7. “Bella Swan" As the heroine of the "Twilight" saga, she has the "problem" of being pursued by two hot guys. Her vulnerability and lovelorn yearning for eternal love make her a popular favorite with women.
  8. “Indiana Jones” Indy has seen rolling boulders, snakes and super villains but always comes out on top. A throwback to the matinee heroes of 1940's b-movies, we can't help but love this popular character.
  9. “Forrest Gump” This lovable simpleton found a place in our hearts. Tom Hanks’ performance as the title character is the stuff of movie legend and will be enjoyed for generations.
  10. “Luke Skywalker” A cool sounding name and a great story made this character hugely popular. Fans around the world know him as the guy who destroyed the Death Star and the son of Darth Vader.
