10 Most Famous Movies About Cars

Wednesday, March 23 by Tony Dayton

For those who like movies that feature automobiles, below are some of the ten most famous movies about cars. Some of these movies are old classics, some are comedies, while others involve cars that want to hurt people.

  1. "Cars" This animated classic is about a race car that gets stuck in a nearly deserted town while on his way to the Piston Cup race in California. Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Paul Newman, and Cheech Marin lent their voices to this popular car movie.
  2. "Transformers" In addition to being a very good movie, "Transformers" was Hollywood hottie Megan Fox's breakout role. The sexy brunette was featured in some very memorable car scenes; none more so than the shot of her looking under the hood of a car while donning a pair of skin tight jean shorts. Oh yeah, the Autobots were cool too, as they battled to keep Megatron and his cronies from possessing the All Spark and ruling the universe.
  3. "Transformers II" Meghan Fox again was featured in this popular car sequel, and again she was very hot. The movie also featured some cool fight scenes between Autobots, a revived Megatron, and another evil vehicle, The Fallen.
  4. "Christine" One of Stephen King's better movies, "Christine" is about an evil car that possesses a teenage boy and goes on a killing spree. This popular car movie was directed by John Carpenter and was released in 1983.
  5. "The Car" Another killer car movie, "The Car" is a 1977 thriller which features a car that goes on a killing spree in a small Utah town. After killing the town's sheriff and his girlfriend, Captain Wade Parent destroys the vehicle at the end of the movie. Though "The Car" may not be as popular as "Christine," it does have a much higher body count.
  6. "Speed Racer" Of all the famous movies about cars on this list, "Speed Racer" easily possesses the best cast as it features John Goodman, Susan Sarandon, Christina Ricci, Emile Hirsch, and Matthew Fox. It also owned one of the largest budgets ($120,000,000) and silliest plots as a young man dubbed "Speed Racer" tries to win the same cross country car race that took his brother's life.
  7. "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" One of the most popular of the car movies is the 1968 musical, "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." Starring Dick Van Dyke, this move is about a car that can float as well as fly. Throughout the movie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang outwitted the evil Baron Bomburst, who continuously tried to steal the amazing car.
  8. "The Love Bug" There are several series of "The Love Bug," but the car movie that is going to be focused on is the 1968 film. Herbie is a Volkswagen Beetle that ends up being a racing champion as he defeats his former owner, Peter Thorndyke.
  9. "The Fast and the Furious" "The Fast and the Furious" was such a hit that the popular car movie spawned three sequels. Starring Vin Diesel and the sexy Michelle Rodriguez., car lovers enjoy the movie because it features hot cars and women, as well as cool racing scenes – none more so then when Dominic Toretto's (Vin Diesel) 1993 modified Mazda RX-7 defeats Brian O'Connor's (Paul Walker) 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse.
  10. "The Cannonball Run" Rounding out the ten most famous movies about cars is "The Cannonball Run." Starring Burt Reynolds, Roger Moore, Dom Deluise, and Farrah Fawcett, this 1981 comedy is one of the most popular car movies ever made. The movie is about a cross country race featuring a modified van disguised as an ambulance, an all female team who use their marvelous breasts to their advantage, and a computer laden Subaru. "The Cannonball Run" also featured up-and-coming stars, such as Jackie Chan, Adrienne Barbeau, Sammy Davis Jr., as well as Hall of Fame quarterback, Terry Bradshaw.

Count the Transformers together as a series and add “Corvette Summer”. Mark Hamill and the cool, custom corvette.

Are you serious? Apart from two or three films, this could be the “worst car films of all time” list instead. Get a life!
