10 Iconic Movie Couples

Wednesday, March 2 by Layla Sinclair

These 10 iconic movie couples have been immortalized on the big screen and are inseparable in moviegoers’ memories. The characters below appeared in both romances and tragedies. Their legendary relationships are as classic as the movies themselves.

  1. Rick Blaine and Ilsa Lund. This iconic movie couple appeared in one of the greatest romances of all time, “Casablanca.” Humphrey Bogart plays the swaggering, jaded Rick to perfection, while Ingrid Berman sizzles as a lover who suddenly re-enters into his life.
  2. Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara. In another classic love story, Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable play one of cinema’s most iconic movie couples. Scarlett is an unscrupulous Southern belle who meets her match with the rogue character, Rhett. Their chemistry is undeniable and animal-like at times.
  3. Bonnie and Clyde. Warren Beauty and Faye Dunaway play this iconic couple based on the real-life bank robbers. They play the perfect antiheros and have plenty of sex appeal in their 1920’s garb, with a cigar and gun slung over their shoulders. Their final demise together provides one of the most stylized death scenes ever shot.
  4. Jack and Rose. When “Titanic” fever gripped the world back in 1997, it was mostly due to the chemistry between this iconic movie couple. Leonard DiCaprio and Kate Winslet sailed into many people's hearts despite the corniness of it all. The famous scene on the bow of the boat has been replicated and parodied more times than can be counted.
  5. Romeo and Juliet. Leonardo DiCaprio headlined this other very famous romance movie. Of course, this iconic couple has been around for hundreds of years. Baz Luhrmann's movie version of the play, however, placed Romeo and Juliet in Verona Beach and made the couple more relatable to young people today.
  6. Mickey and Malory Knox. These rebels are like the Bonnie and Clyde’s of the 90’s. Woody Harrelson and Juliet Lewis star as lovers on a murderous rampage in “Natural Born Killers.” Don’t expect a cheesy romance movie when you rent this movie.
  7. Danny and Sandy.High school days seemed so carefree in this 1950’s musical classic, “Grease.” The movie contained an iconic screen couple, played by John Travolta and Olivia Newton John. Opposites proved to attract in this film, as greaser Danny falls for good girl Sandy.
  8. Neo and Trinity. For all the sci-fi nerds out there, this is your iconic movie couple for the ages. Neo dodges bullets and fulfills prophesies, while Trinity not only stands by her man, but knows how to throw a mean punch. And they do it all in tight, black clothes and cool sunglasses.
  9. Allie and Noah. This tearjerker features an iconic movie couple starring Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. They play high school sweethearts who reunite later and find their love still intact. Their romance is electric, and the movie contains a very wet, memorable scene in the rain.
  10. Lady and the Tramp. Cartoons contain iconic movie couples in them, too. This Disney classic features the cute dog Lady being wooed in Little Italy by the stray, Tramp. How can you not smile at their romantic spaghetti dinner?
