10 Great Lesbian Movies
The list of the 10 great lesbian movies was a lot of fun to come up with. Lesbian movies are really not what some people perceive them to be. They are not chicks running around having orgies. These lesbian movies tell a story of the love that two females have for each other. Sure, there may be sex scenes but that is not a big deal. It is the relationship of the females that make the movie.
“Desert Hearts” – This is a great lesbian movie that was made in 1985. It is made after the novel by Jane Rule. The movie stars Helen Shaver and Patricia Carbonneau. Vivian is in the midst of a divorce when she meets Cay, a sculptor. Vivian and Cay kiss and they are pleasantly surprised. The movie takes them through the trials and tribulations of figuring out their relationship.
“But I’m a Cheerleader” – This is a lesbian comedy produced in 1999. It stars Natasha Lyon, Cathy Moriarty, R Paul and Clea Duvall. The movie is about Megan's friends who are convinced that she is a lesbian so they send her to a homosexual rehabilitation camp.
“Incredibly True Adventures of Two Girls in Love” – Made in 1995, this is a great lesbian movie. The movie includes Laurel Holloman, Nicole Ari Parker and Dale Dickey. A great lesbian movie about two high school girls who fall in love. One is a rich girl and one is the senior with poor grades.
“Bound”- " Bound" is a steamy lesbian movie. The movie was produced in 1996 and stars Jennifer Tilly, Gina Gershon and Joe Pantoliano. The plot of the movie is about two women, one an ex-con, meet, fall in love and then plan to scheme money from the Mafia.
“Better Than Chocolate” – This movie was made and 1999 and is a great lesbian movie. It stars Wendy Crewson, Karyn Dwyer and Christina Cox. The movie is about Maggie who has started a lesbian affair with Kim. But when Maggie's mother and brother move in with her unexpectedly she must keep her affair a secret because they have no clue she is a lesbian.
“Kissing Jessica Stein" – This 2001 movie stars Heather Juergensen and Jennifer Westfeldt. Jessica answers a personal ad and meets the stunning Helen. But Jessica is bi-curious and nervous about being with another woman. This movie is based on the scene from the 1997 play" Lipstick."
“Go Fish" – This great lesbian movie was produced in 1994. It stars Guinevere Turner and V.S. Brodie. It tells the tale of interrelationships of a group of lesbian pals in Chicago. The film includes narration, discussions, dream sequences, commentary and poetry.
“I’ve Heard the Mermaid Singing" – This 1987 movie starring Sheila McCarthy, Paule Baillargeon and Ann-Marie MacDonald. Polly is the film's narrator. Polly is a Girl Friday and she gets a job at a private art gallery owned by a woman named Gabrielle. Gabrielle rekindles an old flame with Mary when Polly discovers she has feelings for Gabrielle. But what will happen when Polly finds out that Mary and Gabrielle are nothing but art frauds?
“If These Walls Could Talk 2” – This 2000 great lesbian movie stars Jane Anderson, Sylvia and Alex Sichel and Anne Heche. It follows the storylines about lesbian couples from three different generations: 1960s, 1970s and present-day. Each segment has a different director.
“D.E.B.S” – This 2003 movie stars Alex Breckenridge, Shanti Lowry, Jill Ritchie and Clare Kramer. It is a short film that features the love story between one of the film's good girls and one of the film's bad girls. D.E.B.S is a secret paramilitary group that stands for discipline, energy, beauty and strength.
