Wednesday, January 26 by Elizabeth Pack

As you can see from this list of 10 cool movie characters from 2008, it was a year for great action flicks. 2008 boasted some of the coolest and most remembered characters of the decade. However, just because the list is filled with super heroes and beloved adventurers does not mean that there were not equally cool characters in the comedy, drama and even animation realm. Enjoy the following list of the top ten coolest movie characters from the year 2008.

  1. James Bond from "Quantum of Solace." Has there ever been a cooler movie character than James Bond? He is the quintessential definition of cool fighting off bad guys, evading death at every turn and breaking the heart of every woman in the room. Daniel Craig thrilled audiences in his second Bond film playing the legendary secret agent.  In the movie, Bond is battling to prevent a coup in Bolivia while searching for revenge for the death of his only true love, Vesper Lynd.
  2. Bruce Wayne, Batman from "The Dark Knight." Though his part in the movie may have been overshadowed by the posthumous portrayal of the Joker by the late Heath Ledger, Christian Bale shines through as 2008's coolest vigilante as our favorite super hero without real superpowers.
  3. Tony Stark Iron Man from "Iron Man." Robert Downey Jr. appears in the first Iron Man movie as Tony Stark, one of Marvel Comic's superheroes. Downey's portrayal received accolades and the sequel, "Iron Man 2," premiered in 2010.
  4. Aldous Snow from "Forgetting Sarah Marshall." In the romantic comedy, "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," Russell Brand plays Aldous Snow, the rockstar boyfriend of the title character. Despite the rockstars troubling past, Brand ads to the character's cool factor and creates a persona that the viewer cannot help but like. Snow was considered so cool that he go this own movie, "Get Him to the Greek," which premiered in 2010.
  5. Fox from "Wanted." 2008 was definitely a year for cool male characters in action movies, but Angelina Jolie scores for the girls. Her reprisal of Fox the assassin in the comic book based movie, "Wanted," is a role to be remembered. While the role of Fox was not at all outside of Jolie's preferred type cast of the 'hot, tough chick,' she definitely adds some needed sexiness to the list of cool movie characters.
  6. Wall-E from "Wall-E." Audiences fell in love with the title character of 2008's favorite animated flick. Both young and old loved watching this silent, but endearing robot in the environmentally themed film, "Wall-E."
  7. Indiana Jones from "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." This film, released almost two decades later than the original Indiana Jones movies, stars Harrison Ford as the world's most renowned archaeologist, Indiana Jones. Despite the main character's age in this later edition to the series, Indiana Jones proves to be as cool and tough as ever.
  8. Benjamin Button from "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." The title character of the 2008 drama may have lacked super powers or charisma that other characters on this list possess, but his medical condition trumps all of their guns and technologically enhanced armor. The man aged in reverse, being born as an old man and dying an infant. It may be weird, but you do not get much cooler than that.
  9. Harvey Milk from "Milk." This biopic follows the story of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in the state of California. The activist film received eight Academy Award nominations and two wins.
  10. Walt Kowalski from "Gran Torino." Clint Eastwood is an actor renowned for his cool factor. He appears in this action film as Korean War veteran Walt Kowalski. He befriends and protects a local Hmong family from a dangerous gang in the community.
