"Chasing Amy." In a story of unrequited love that seems to almost work, Ben Affleck gives one of his best performances as a man who falls in love with a lesbian (the adorable Joey Lauren Adams) only to come to terms with the fact that he can't accept her seedy past.
"Splendor in the Grass." Natalie Wood plays a teenage girl who is downright nutty for her hunk of a boyfriend (Warren Beatty). As we all know, young love can just destroy you, and in her case, it literally makes her crazy.
"Brokeback Mountain." This is about a secret love that can never be fully realized due to the societal traditions of the time. Two cowboys (Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal) must continue their lives without perfect happiness, what could be sadder than that? Oh yeah, the death of Jack, thus ensuring no possible reunion.
"A Walk to Remember." Young love once again proves to just end in heartache. "A Walk to Remember" is another film based on a Nicholas Sparks novel ("The Notebook") so of course there are attractive young actors portraying charming characters that find a love that is so perfect, it must be stopped. This is one that ends with a sweeter-than-pie teenage girl (Mandy Moore) who happens to succumb to her hidden illness.
"Happy Accidents." A little-seen gem of a movie featuring Marisa Tomei as a woman who finally finds the love of her life (Vincent D'Onofrio) only to realize that everything is not what it seems. The ending is so bizarre that it shouldn't be spoiled.
