Mr. Weschler III is correct Lloyd. I won't call you stupid as you've called everyone else here in your post. I'll call you simply "misinformed". Sadly, it is a common trick that some theater operators will do: They will run a non-IMAX format movie in their IMAX theater. Some will even charge you the IMAX movie price knowing it's not an IMAX film! They count on the fact that you won't know the difference. My name is Pat Caldwell, and I've been in the film biz for almost 40 years....almost 15 of that in the IMAX end of things. Trust us....you've been hoodwinked by your local AMC. I was an IMAX projectionist at a major chain's theater in the southeast when Gladiator came out. We ran a drive-in print of it on a 35mm projector in our IMAX theater. I asked management if I should put on the 30 second trailer supplied by IMAX that informs the audience the film is NOT an IMAX formatted film. Management said, "NO! Let them think it's in IMAX...."

www.imaxguy.com is my site....I think you'll see that I've been doing this long enough to know about this....

Ghosts of the Abyss was filmed with SONY CineAlta HDW-F950 24P cameras and transfered from the digital master to 1570 film at CFI, with the help of DKP. Much like this list, you're only half right.

I recognize a number of the commentators here and, including myself, there's around 60 years of experience working in IMAX theaters that know with a certainty you're wrong. Both My Bloody Valentine and Coraline were playing exclusively in REAL D and Dolby 3D while IMAX theaters were showing the re-release of The Dark Knight. Journey to the Center of the Earth played exclusively in REAL D at the time that IMAX theaters were showing The Dark Knight in its first run. The accepted industry standard to be considered an IMAX movie is that it must be run on 15perf/70mm film or on digital files through IMAX's proprietary film or digital projectors. Now, in the past, films have been shown in other formats in IMAX theaters, such as 35mm (Gladiator and Pearl Harbor with drive-in prints), but calling anything that doesn't go through an IMAX projector an IMAX movie is like calling a Chevy a Ford simply because it's sitting in the used car lot at the Ford dealership. Doesn't work that way. If you still don't believe that only half of the films on this list are IMAX, check out the following lists which have been compiled by industry professionals:

Is everyone on this board too stupid to read that all of these movies were released in IMAX 3D? Coraline - yes, you could see it in IMAX at AMC Theaters even though everyone on this board says you cannot. My Bloody Valentine, also released in IMAX 3D. Journey to the Center of the Earth IMAX 3D, etc., etc. You may not like the fact that these movies were not shot in an IMAX format - but that is not the writer's fault - is it?

"Ghosts of the Abyss" and "The Magic of Flight" are the only TWO IMAX films on this list. The rest was shot on HD or 35mm film and the DMR'ed.

Sadly, internet "journalism" does not seem to be concerned about being factually correct. Even if the list is the author's opinion they should at least all be movies that were shown in IMAX theatres. Now, whay makes a true IMAX film is another debate altogether.....

I'd never heard of screenjunkies.com until I read a blog post about this article. How sad that this article is so wrong! I've surfed the rest of the site and have come to the conclusion that most of this site's articles are very shallow....it seems as if the stories are written by junior high school students. No substance. I think this site is merely a vehicle for ads. I was forwarded the reply to an email that was sent to them, and it's obvious they don't care about any form of accuracy.

This might be the worst feature I've ever seen on this site. Does the writer even know what IMAX is? Are they confused about the difference between IMAX and 3D? They've also neglected to include the two DMR releases containing scenes that were shot specifically for IMAX (two small-budget pics nobody ever saw...The Dark Knight and Tron: Legacy).

They may as well be writing about the 10 best dairy products and include pears, peanuts, turkey, potato chips, and beef jerkey while leaving out ice cream and cheese. In other words, the author clearly has no clue what he/she/dog is writing about.

What a crock! I emailed them, and they said the article is "opinion based" and they will not change it. Makes me wonder about the accuracy of the rest of their stories. I'll bet they think Stonehenge and the pyramids are 2 of the best places to visit in the United States!

Hi there I work as a n IMAX projectionist, and the only thing about this list is that only actually half of these films are actually IMAX releases. 1,2,7,8 and 10 are IMAX the rest are not, probably Real D.
