The 10 best DVD releases from April 2009 are all types of genres including comedy, family, drama, and biographical. Some of the April 2009 DVD releases are films that gained Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations. These 10 films all made the top 10 list for DVD sales during their first week of release.

  1. "Bedtime Stories". Released on DVD April 4, 2009 this family comedy stars Adam Sandler as a hotel handyman whose bedtime stories to his niece and nephew come true. One of the best DVD releases in April 2009 because that year it was ranked #25 on the top selling DVD list by selling almost three million copies. It was the highest showing for an April 2009 DVD release.
  2. "The Wrestler". "The Wrestler" DVD was released on April 21, 2009 and during it's first week sold 279,149 units making it the #2 selling DVD that week. Mickey Rourke won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Randy "The Ram" Robinson, an aging wrestler clinging to his heyday. One of the best DVD releases from April 2009 because it made over twenty critics' list for top ten movies of 2008.
  3. "Bride Wars". Released in April 2009, "Bride Wars" was the top selling DVD during its first week of release. The comedy starring Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway is about two best friends who engage in bridal warfare when their weddings end up on the same day and neither one will budge. One of the best April 2009 DVD releases because it went on to sell almost two million copies in 2009.
  4. "Doubt". One of the best DVD releases of April 2009 because Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, and Viola Davis, were all nominated for Oscars in their portrayals for this movie. Released on April 7, 2009 this drama is about a nun that confronts a priest after suspecting him of abusing a black student.
  5. "Frost/Nixon". The political drama was released in April 2009 and revolves around David Frost's interviews with former president Richard Nixon. Directed by Ron Howard, this is one of the ten best DVD releases of April 2009 because of how many known actors were in this movie. Part of the cast included, Frank Langella, Michael Sheen, Kevin Bacon, and Oliver Platt.
  6. "The Tale of Despereaux". "The Tale of Despereaux" is a computer-animated film that's entertaining for all ages that was released in April 2009. The fairy tale story follows Despereaux Tilling, a small mouse with large ears, who falls in love with Princess Pea. Selling just over 1.5 million copies in 2009, it was ranked #54 on top selling DVD's of 2009 list.
  7. "Yes Man". Released on DVD April 7, 2009 this romantic comedy is about man who decides to change his life by saying yes to everything that comes his way. Starring Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel this April 2009 DVD sold just over 1.5 million copies during 2009.
  8. "Notorious". The January 2009 American biopic about the life of hip-hop star Christopher "The Notorious B.I.G." Wallace was released on DVD in April 2009. One of the best DVD releases from April 2009 because of how anticipated the movie was by fans of Wallace. It was the #1 selling DVD it's first week release.
  9. "The Day the Earth Stood Still (2009)". A remake of the 1951 science fiction movie with the same name; it revolves around renowned scientist (Jennifer Connelly) and alien Klaatu (Keanu Reeves), who traveled to Earth to warn an impending global crisis. One of the 10 best DVD releases of April 2009 because of it's success of selling just over two million copies.
  10. "Hotel for Dogs". Released on DVD April 28, 2009 this children's comedy is about two orphans that hide their dog at an abandoned hotel because their guardians won't let pets in their home. The April 2009 DVD sold just under two million copies that year. On the top selling DVD list for 2009 it was ranked #40.
