Knowing the 10 best comedy drama movies of all time can be useful. When you think about it, real life is often peppered with both funny and dramatic moments. This is why people gravitate toward comedy drama movies. The best comedy drama movies manage a balance between both genres, which leads the viewer to laugh, cry and experience a range of other emotions while they are watching. 

  1. "Forrest Gump" definitely should be mentioned among the best comedy drama movies. Released in 1994, "Forrest Gump" stared Tom Hanks and was directed by Robert Zemeckis. The movie followed a simple man of less than average intelligence as he navigated successfully through some of histories most significant events. 
  2. "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" is an older movie, but it is both funny and dramatic. This movie was released in 1975, it starred Jack Nicholson and was directed by Milos Forman. The movie is about a rebel who upon entering a mental institution tries to lighten things up only to be met by the firm resistance of the head nurse. 
  3. "Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind" was released in 2004. It starred Jim Carrey as a distraught man seeking to erase the memory of his ex-girlfriend. 
  4. "It's a Wonderful Life" is definitely a good choice for a comedy drama movie. This holiday classic was released in 1946. I starred James Stewart and was directed by Frank Capra. The movie follows and angel as he shows a frustrated businessman what life would be like if he never existed. 
  5. "Little Miss Sunshine" was released in 2006. This Indie flick got a lot of attention at some of the film festivals, which rocketed it to popularity. The movie was about a family of misfits that takes a road trip in their VW to take their youngest member to a beauty pageant. 
  6. "Lost in Translation" is another example of a good comedy drama film. This 2003 film was directed by Sofia Coppola. It stared Scarlett Johansen as a newlywed and Bill Murray as an unhappy actor. The two strangers meet as guests staying in the same Tokyo hotel and form an unlikely friendship. 
  7. "Breakfast at Tiffany's" is a classic comedy drama. The film was released in 1961 and starred screen legend Audrey Hepburn as New York socialite who takes an interest in a struggling writer who moves into her apartment building. 
  8. "As Good As It Gets" is another great Jack Nicholson comedy drama movie. The movie was released in 1997 and was directed by James L. Brooks. It also starred Helen Hunt and Greg Kinnear. The three main characters a neurotic author, a gay man and a single mother/ waitress take a road trip and form an unlikely friendship. 
  9. "Good Morning Vietnam" is a great comedy drama. It was released in 1987 and starred Robin Williams as a rebellious and unorthodox DJ who is assigned to a US Armed Services radio station during the Vietnam war
  10. "Fight Club" was released in 1999. It starred Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. The movies is about a soap salesman and an office employee who form an underground club for men to fight and vent their everyday frustration.
