10 Awesome Movie Moments

Wednesday, February 9 by George Root

The 10 awesome movie moments are those scenes that made each movie memorable. Some are funny, some are disturbing and some take time to figure out. But when you see the 10 awesome movie moments, they definitely make you want to see the rest of the movie.

  1. "Animal House" (1978). When Eric Stratton (Tim Matheson) and Donald Schoenstein (Peter Riegert) of Delta House start hitting golf balls into the dean's office and off the behind of the ROTC commander's horse. you have one of the 10 awesome movie moments. That scene captures the sarcastic tone of the movie perfectly.
  2. "Alien" (1979). When the android Kane (John Hurt) has the newborn alien pop out of his chest, it was unlike anything anyone had ever seen before. This movie has a second scene that belongs on the list of 10 awesome movie moments when the severed head of android Ash (Ian Holm) starts talking.
  3. "Eyes Wide Shut" (1999). Most people are still unsure as to what this movie is about. But it has one of the 10 awesome movie moments in it when a naked Nicole Kidman starts parading around the bedroom for Tom Cruise. Considering all of the skin Cruise was showing and the dirty talk both actors were engaged in, it is safe to say that both men and women find this scene pretty awesome.
  4. "Apollo 13" (1995). Anyone that was familiar with the Apollo 13 space mission prior to the movie coming out knew how the story ended. But it was the incredibly well-produced way that the movie was done that makes the final scene awesome. You are never sure, until you see the parachute, whether the crew was going to make it.
  5. "Dirty Harry" (1971). The "Dirty Harry" movie franchise has several moments worthy of the 10 awesome movie moments list, but this list will stick with the two best. When Dirty Harry (Clint Eastwood) pins down the bank robber and points his huge handgun at him, the robber has to decide if he feels lucky. The robber drops his gun, and Harry pulls the trigger to show the robber the chamber was empty.
  6. "Sudden Impact" (1983). With inspector Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood), it can be hard to tell who's side he is on. When a robber is holding a gun to the head of a diner waitress, Harry just tells the crook "Go ahead, make my day." The crook gets shot, and a legend is born.
  7. "Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope" (1977). George Lucas broke a lot of movie ground with his "Star Wars" series. But the scene that makes the list of the 10 awesome movie moments is the very opening of "Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope" when the rebel freight ship is followed by the huge Imperial Cruiser. The effect of that ship coming out of the screen, and the use of surround sound for one of the first times ever, made that scene memorable.
  8. "Rocky II" (1979). Most movie fans felt that the split decision that ended "Rocky" (1976) was not sufficient. That is why the ending of "Rocky II" (1979) is one of the 10 awesome movie moments of all time. When Rocky barely beats the count to win the belt, the whole theater stood up and cheered.
  9. "Inglorious Basterds" (2009). Director Quentin Tarantino knows how to get the most out of every scene in his movie. In one of the early scenes in "Inglorious Basterds" (2009), Nazi agent Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz) is interrogating a French farmer about a Jewish family. The scene comes to a climax so gradually, and so expertly, that is just a pleasure to watch.
  10. "The Exorcist" (1973). Little Regan (Linda Blair) is possessed by the devil. The scene in this movie that is awesome and will be remembered forever is when Regan's head turn completely around. The cracking noise and the smile on her face make this scene famous.
