Western Movies 2008
The days of Clint Eastwood and John Wayne may be long gone, but these Western movies 2008 prove that the genre is far from dead. Viggo Mortensen, Ed Harris, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, and Luke Perry all tried their hands at this classic genre. 2008 was a relatively dry year for good Western movies, but these movies still should provide the spurs, saddles, and saloon fights you're craving.
"Appaloosa." This 2008 traditional Western starred Ed Harris, Renée Zellweger, and Viggo Mortensen. Harris and Mortensen play two men hired to protect and bring justice to the town of Appaloosa after an troublesome rancher (Jeremy Irons) comes to town and terrorizes its citizens. Zellweger plays a charming widow named Allison French. The film was directed by Harris and is based off of a 2005 novel by Robert B. Parker of the same name.
"Australia." While not a typical American Western, this 2008 Australian film definitely has decidedly Western elements. Nicole Kidman plays an aristocrat rancher who mus drive cattle across Australia with a cattle drover (Hugh Jackman). The movie ended up being one of the most successful Australian movies ever made.
"A Gunfighter's Pledge." This was a made-for-TV movie in 2008 that starred former "Beverly Hills 90210" star Luke Perry. Perry plays a lawmen bent on killing the escaped convict who killed his wife and son. Kim Coates and C. Thomas Howell also star.
"Lone Rider." Another made-for-TV movie, this 2008 B Western starred Lou Diamond Phillips and is nearly impossible to find. It didn't exactly get rave reviews, but if you're looking for laughably bad westerns, this might fit the bill.
