“Unforgiven” This movie about the Wild West earned an Academy Award for Best Picture. The story explores moral issues like redemption and forgiveness. Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman play retired cowboys hired to kill by a group of prostitutes who had one of their girls badly injured by a client.
“Tombstone” A great movie that features many historical figures, “Tombstone” stars Val Kilmer, Kurt Russell, Sam Elliot, and Bill Paxton. Kilmer shines as Doc Holiday, while Kurt Russell plays Wyatt Earp. The movie depicts the shootout at OK Corral in its most famous scene.
“High Noon” This 1952 classic is one of the best movies about the Wild West. Gary Cooper plays a retired sheriff who finds himself forced to participate in a showdown at high noon. He must prepare for the fateful day and leave his love, played by Grace Kelly.
“True Grit” You have the choice to watch either the original version starring John Wayne or the recently released depiction, which features Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon. Both are great moves about the Wild West. The films differ quite a bit, however, so check them both out if you’re interested in a good Western.
“Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” This classic movie about the Wild West features one of the greatest pairing of actors in cinematic history Paul Newman and Robert Redford. They play outlaw buddies who narrowly dodge one escapade after another. They soon decide to embark on a new adventure down in Bolivia. The bittersweet ending makes this a great movie about friendship and taking chances.
“The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” Clint Eastwood appears again, this time as a cowboy out to fin buried gold. He is double-crossed, however, by the fellow outlaws all around him in this movie about the Wild West. The race is soon on to find the treasure first and stay alive in the process.
“3:10 to Yuma” Russell Crowe and Christian Bale plays enemies in this movie about the Wild West. Bale plays a rancher who must take a criminal (Crowe) back to custody on the 3:10 train to Yuma. Crowe’s character, however, has a few tricks up his sleeve and attempts to manipulate his captor into confusion.
“Stagecoach” John Wayne made one of his early acting debuts in this John Ford movie about the Wild West. He plays the Ringo Kid, who partakes on a frontier journey West. Along the way, Geronimo and a band of Indians besiege the stagecoach.
