Famous War Movies For Guys

Some people think that all famous war movies count as famous war movies for guys. However, anyone who has seen "Cold Mountain" knows that this is simply not true. Here are some famous war movies that are particularly appealing to guys.

  1. "Apocalypse Now" If you want to make a famous war movie for guys, casting alpha men Marlon Brando, Martin Sheen, and Robert Duvall is a pretty good way to start. "Apocalypse Now," directed by Francis Ford Coppola in 1979, shows the ambiguous nature of the Vietnam War and its effects on the human mind.
  2. "Full Metal Jacket" Many men will no doubt like the crude language and dark humor found in "Full Metal Jacket," a film that recounts the boot camp experience of several young marines during the Vietnam War.
  3. "The Dirty Dozen" Casting a hall of fame running back is a good way to make the list of famous war movies for guys, and the cast of "The Dirty Dozen" features Cleveland Browns running back Jim Brown. The plot centers around a group of prisoners who are trained to fight in World War II.
  4. "Platoon" "Platoon" features a cast of all-American men, including Charlie Sheen, Willem Dafoe, and Johnny Depp. The film is based on the real-life experiences of directer Oliver Stone, who was a United States infantryman in Vietnam. The film, which one an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1986, features realistic battles, strippers, drugs, and a whole lot of male bonding.
  5. "The Green Berets" No list of famous war movies for guys would be complete without a movie starring John Wayne. This 1968 film tells the story of a group of guys in the American Special Forces. The movie was unusual in that it focused on the beginning of the Vietnam War and portrayed the Americans as the good guys.
