Good Spanish Movies For Guys

There are many good Spanish movies for guys. These are not just movies made in Spain, as there are many Spanish movies from other parts of the world including Mexico and Latin America. These foreign language films are well worth your time even if you don’t speak the language. Turn on the subtitles and enjoy the stories.

  1. “Pan’s Labyrinth”Guillermo del Toro directs this twisted fairy tale, a good Spanish movie for guys. Set in fascist Spain, the stepdaughter of a brutal army officer escapes the horrors of real life into a fantasy world. Unfortunately, the fantasy world she runs to is as dangerous as the real world from which she has fled.
  2. “The Orphanage” – Guillermo del Toro produces this horror story that remains a good Spanish movies for guys. A woman moves back into her childhood home and opens an orphanage for handicapped kids. Soon her own son begins to see a ghost.
  3. “The Devil’s Backbone” – In another horror movie by Guillermo del Toro, this good Spanish movie for guys takes place at an orphanage during the Spanish Civil War. A young boy is left at the orphanage and is soon haunted by a ghost who wants vengeance for prior wrongs.
  4. “Abre Los Ojos” – This is a mystery thriller that is directed by Alejandro Amenabar. In one of the good Spanish movies for guys, a man suffers an auto accident after discovering a woman he falls in love with. The movie was remade in America starring Tom Cruise but the original remains superior.
  5. “Amores Perros” – This Spanish language film is comparable to “Pulp Fiction” and remains one of the good Spanish movies for guys. Three fractured stories occur in the film, all based around a traffic accident. Each tale deals with loss and regret and the harsh realities of life.
  6. “Timecrimes” – This is an amazing science fiction film that remains one of the good Spanish movies for guys. A man is mysteriously sent back in time an hour after being attacked by a masked figure. The movie then twists and turns as the man comes across himself in the past and starts trying to figure out how to end the madness.
  7. “Rudo y Cursi” – This movie is produced by the company created by Guillermo del Toro, Alfonso Cuaron and Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu. The movie is directed by Carlos Cuaron and reunites Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, the stars of “Y Tu Mama Tambien” in a story of youth using soccer to escape from poverty.
  8. “City of God” – This crime drama is one of the good Spanish movies for guys. Fernando Meirelles directs the movie, adapted from the novel of the same name. The movie follows young men who strive to rise up the ranks of the local mafia at all costs.
  9. “Y Tu Mama Tambien” – This remains a good Spanish movie for guys, telling the story of sexual awakenings for two friends on a road trip. Directed by Alfonso Cuaron, the movie has two friends come across an older lady who awakens their sexual curiosity and breaks a number of personal taboos.
  10. “Spirit of the Beehive” – While not an action movie, this is a good Spanish movie for guys who like classic masterpieces. A little girl in rural Spain goes to view a traveling showing of the horror movie “Frankenstein.” She then drifts off into her own fantasy world, trying to escape her mundane life.

    a) You don’t need to point out that each movie is “a good Spanish movies for guys”. Yes. We know they are. That’s what the list is about. It’s right there, in the title.
    b) I can accept “Spanish” as “from Spain” or “filmed in Spanish”, but “City of God” is Brazilian, filmed in Portugese.
