The list of great UFO movies for guys includes some of the best alien invasion movies ever made. Aliens and flying saucers have always made for great film content with their air of mysteriousness and the ability of screenwriters to project a variety of qualities onto them. Aliens are sometimes peaceful, but are usually more interesting when they have hostile intentions.

  1. “Independence Day” This movie, one of the best UFO movies for guys, begins with massive, imposing UFOs ominously appearing in the skies all over the world. After its clear that the aliens have come with bad intentions, the world arms itself against them. Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith combine brains with brawn to take on the aliens with Randy Quaid’s character figuring out the UFO’s sole weakness.
  2. “The Day the Earth Stood Still” This good UFO movie for guys starts with a spaceship headed for earth at startling speed, leading scientists to think it is an asteroid. After the ship lands in Central Park, a character played by Keanu Reeves disembarks and is accidentally shot, causing a violent robot to emerge from the ship. Though Reeves’ character is benevolent, mankind faces the robot. Eventually, Reeves’ character disables it, but the price that is paid is the destruction of all machinery and power on earth.
  3. “The War of the Worlds” The spaceships in this great UFO movie for guys don’t actually appear in the sky, but from the ground, having been planted there in the form of lightning strikes by aliens over the years. Having watched mankind for sometime, the aliens understand earth and launch an attack. Tom Cruise plays the lead in this movie, a man trying to protect his kids against the invaders, who ultimately succumb to earth’s viruses to which they have no immunity.
  4. “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” Steven Spielberg directed and partially wrote this movie, a classic film and one of the great UFO movies for guys. Roy Neary, played by Richard Dreyfuss, has a close encounter with a UFO after which he becomes obsessed with it. As strange events and abductions increase around the world, the U.S. government prepares to greet visitors from outer space. At the meeting, which Neary has crashed, he is invited onto an alien mother ship. The film ends with the aliens taking off.
  5. “Mars Attacks” This film is one of the great UFO movies for guys in all its campy and silly glory. With a great ensemble cast of Martin Short, Jack Nicholson, Jack Black, Natalie Portman, Danny DeVito and Michael J. Fox, the film is directed by the unique Tim Burton, who puts his fingerprints all over it. The aliens appear to come in peace, but proceed to humorously annihilate everyone, including Congress. Eventually, it's discovered that an old country song makes their heads explode.
