Lord Of The Rings Cast

Few can argue against the concept that the "Lord of the Rings" cast might have been one of the best casts ever assembled, especially when you consider the sheer popularity of the trilogy and the fact that they managed to keep the cast in tact. The "Lord of the Rings" cast was made up of a collection of well known actors who largely had never worked in this kind of movie before, but they adapted quickly and by the time you were less than halfway into the movie, they appeared completely at home in their characters.

Elijah Wood

Wood lead the "Lord of the Rings" cast as Frodo, the titular character whose job it was to get the "one ring" back into the <a href=lava from which it was born in order to destroy it. Wood's acting was certainly top notch, though his constant wimpering about the job he had to do made him a character we loved to hate at several different times in the series.

Sean Astin

Sean Astin played Samwise Gamgee in the "Lord of the Rings" cast. While he did an admirable job, it was a bit odd to see a guy who's biggest role before this series was as "Rudy" about nine years earlier.

Orlando Bloom

Bloom took his turn as a member of the "Lord of the Rings" cast and got himself one hell of a career. Since his appearance in this series, he's played a large role in another epic series, "Pirates of the Caribbean," as well as becoming quite the heartthrob among pre-teen girls.

	Viggo Mortensen

Viggo Mortensen had already put together a nice career before he joined the "Lord of the Rings" cast, but this series jumpstarted his career as a leading man. Mortensen, like the rest of the cast, had some moments that were excruciatingly over the top, but he brought real gravitas to his role compared to the hobbits that were flitting all over the landscape.

	Ian McKellen

As Gandolf the Grey, McKellan rounded out the main group of the "Lord of the Rings" cast. While Mortensen had some gravitas, it was McKellen that brought the wizened old wizard to life in a way we have a hard time imagining any other actor could have.
