Hunger Games Movie Cast: May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor

Fans of the hugely popular trilogy of books eagerly awaited the final selection for “The Hunger Games” movie cast. “The Hunger Games” is about a time in the not-so-distant future when the countries of North America collapse and is replaced by a totalitarian regime. To entertain and intimidate the populace, this dystopian nation selects a boy and a girl from each district every year to fight to the death in a violent survival contest.

Lenny Kravitz

This incredibly talented singer-songwriter is better known as a musician than an actor. He first flexed his acting muscles as a voice actor in the animated “The Rugrats Movie” and moved on to something meatier in the 2009 sleeper hit “Precious.” He takes on another minor role as Cinna, the handsome stylist who preps heroine Katniss for the competition. Although it is another bit part, Kravitz does lend his devilishly handsome good looks and immeasurable sex appeal in “The Hunger Games.”

Donald Sutherland

This Hollywood icon was tapped to play President Snow, the sadistic and autocratic ruler of the Capitol and Panem. He was the man responsible for setting up the Hunger Games tournament. Sutherland has appeared in blockbusters such as “MASH.” “Ordinary People,” “Outbreak” and “The Italian Job.” He is the father of actor Keifer Sutherland.

Josh Hutcherson

This good-looking Union, Kentucky, native plays the 16-year-old Peeta Mellark. Peeta is the Hunger Games representative from District 12. He saves Katniss as a child and is secretly in love with her. Hutcherson is also due to appear in the remake of “Red Dawn” a 1984 survival classic that starred Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen.

Woody Harrelson

Harrelson has the uncanny ability to play a myriad of very different roles. In “The Hunger Games” he is the paunchy, middle-aged “Haymitch Abernathy” a former Hunger Games champion from District 12. He is tasked to train both Katniss and Peeta for the upcoming games. He has become a chronic alcoholic because of the stress and trauma of seeing children under his care die in the tournament.

Jennifer Lawrence

The beautiful and slender Jennifer Lawrence won the role of Katniss Everdeen, the chief protagonist in “The Hunger Games” series, over several other actresses. She’s a District 12 representative for the games. Her formidable hunting and archery skills make her a prime contender. Sharp-eyed movie fans may recognize Lawrence in “X-Men: First Class” as the shape changing mutant Mystique.
