Classic UFO Movies

Classic UFO movies have stood the test of time, largely thanks to their extraterrestrial subject matter. Whether people believe in the little green men or not, UFO stories continue to attract everybody’s attention. Perhaps it is the idea that something else could really be out there or maybe it is just for the pure entertainment factor. Nevertheless, storylines about beings from another planet continue to prove popular to this day.

  1. "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." This is perhaps the classic UFO movie. Richard Dreyfuss’ performance of an ordinary man whose life slowly unravels after sighting mysterious lights is outstanding. From the ascending of the Devils Tower to the final scenes communicating with the benevolent beings, this is a classic movie in every sense of the word.
  2. "E.T." This is another classic UFO movie from the Spielberg stable. Aimed at a younger audience, the tale of a young boy’s friendship with a stranded alien being has enchanted audiences worldwide for more than twenty years.
  3. "War of the Worlds." Loosely based upon the novel by H.G. Wells, this 1950’s science fiction movie is one of the all time classic UFO movies. The effects are somewhat dated by today’s standards though they were groundbreaking at the time. It's a must have movie for all science fiction movie buffs.
  4. "The Abyss." This is an eighties masterpiece from director James Cameron. This classic UFO movie puts a spin on the traditional unidentified objects in the sky and transfers the alien encounter to the ocean. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Ed Harris lead a strong cast.
